If you have a Gmail account and you think that you may have been hacked, there are some things that you can do in order to know for sure. Here are some steps to take if you think you’ve been hacked.
- Check the Last Activity on Account – Down at the bottom of your Gmail account is something that talks about the last activity on your account. Click on the details of that.
- Read Details – When you click on details, you are going to get a list of the IP addresses of those who have accessed your account. It’s going to include kind of access, location of access, and the time and date of access.
- IP Address Information – Once you have some IP addresses, look to see if they are from other countries. If you have used third party services, these are going to be shown in your log. A good site to use is DomainTools because they can identify just about anyone’s IP address. This is going to let you know whether you should worry or if it’s just normal activity.
- Check Google Alerts – This is something that watches the activities that you do and monitors them. If it detects anything that is suspicious, it’s going to tell you. When something like this happens, you will be advised by Google to change the password of your account and you should do that.
- Sign Out of Sessions – Sometimes we go on another computer to check our email and we forget to sign out of it. There’s a button provided by Google that allows you to sign out of the other sessions, and this is something that you should do.
These are five things that you can do to check whether or not your Gmail account has been hacked. It’s good to know that Google has its users backs as well, making sure that they are aware of anything suspicious.
